Assen - Spaniard Maverick Vinales, riding a Yamaha, was fastest in the second Dutch Grand Prix free practice session on Friday at Assen.
Vinales, who said on Thursday that he did not like the Dutch circuit, recorded a time of 1min 33.378secs, 0.121secs faster than Italian Andrea Iannone.
On a hot afternoon, with the track temperature reaching 40 degrees Celsius, Danilo Petrucci edged fellow Italian and nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi in a duel for third.
Championship-leading Spaniard Marc Marquez, who was quickest in the opening session in the morning, was only eighth, as he looks for a first Assen victory since 2014.
The reigning world champion leads the overall standings by 27 points from Rossi, with Vinales 11 points further back in third.
In Moto2, Italian Francesco Bagnaia was quickest as he bids to bounce back from an eighth-placed finish last time out in Montmelo which saw Miguel Oliveira cut his championship lead to one point.
Spaniard Aron Canet, winner of the race last year, led the Moto3 timesheets.
