Vettel speaks of 'inspirational' Schumacher

Cape Town - Sebastian Vettel has spoken about the effect Michael Schumacher has had on him and how he wants to replicate his success at Ferrari.

Vettel revealed that he was able to build a special bond with his fellow German during the latter stages of his glittering career and said the advice given to him was of huge value.

"I really miss Michael a lot," Vettel said.

"Not only because of his tremendous experience, on and off the track but also because he was more brilliant and sympathetic than people can imagine.

"He had so much talent and driving instinct, but he always thought carefully about what he did," he said.

"Every time I could talk to him, he was very helpful.

"His advice was very dear to me, especially in the last three and a half years of his career."

While Vettel feels he will never be able to surpass Schumacher's countless records, he does want to replicate one part of his dominant career.

"Michael Schumacher was an enormous source of inspiration for me, but all his records are out of reach for me," he said.

"Something I want to do like him is to become world champion with Ferrari.

"At the same time, I also know that I have already won four world titles and that I'm really lucky."

The Schumacher family remain very protective over Michael's health following a horrific skiing accident in the Alps four years ago.

Keep fighting, Michael.
