Ricciardo 'not ready to retire' from F1 racing

Cape Town - Although Daniel Ricciardo is just "moving next door", his Red Bull farewell has at times sounded like a retirement leaving the Aussie to realise he is not ready for that.

Ricciardo bid farewell to Red Bull in the wake of the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

His P4 at the Yas Marina circuit brought the curtain down on a 10-year relationship as Red Bull supported him in the junior ranks before he worked his way up to being a Red Bull Racing driver.

But while he may be leaving Red Bull, he's not leaving the F1 paddock.

Instead Ricciardo is moving over to Renault, Red Bull's long-term but now ex engine partner.

Speaking about his final goodbyes, the Aussie revealed it has made him realise that his retirement is still some years away.

"It's been cool," he said. "What I think is helping me not think about it too much is that I'm not retiring.

"If I was retiring, I think it would be a different story.

"I'm just moving next door, so to speak.

"It's certainly made me realise, though, that I'm not ready to retire.

"The way some people talked about it, I was like, 'I'd hate to be retiring right now!'"

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
