Merc boss warns of team orders after debacle

Spielberg - Mercedes may issue team orders to stop their battling drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg smashing into one another again, boss Toto Wolff warned on Sunday after their latest run-in.

Speaking in the bitter aftermath of the last-lap crash that saw Rosberg damage his car and limp home fourth, as Hamilton passed him to secure a dramatic Austrian Grand Prix win, team chief Wolff struggled with his emotions.

Clearly angry at seeing another collision -- the pair crashed out together from the Spanish Grand Prix earlier this season -- and concerned at the prospects of more self-inflicted setbacks in the championship, he said talking to the drivers had not worked.

"Cars colliding seems like dj vu for us and it is absolutely not what we want," said Wolff. "We are looking like a bunch of idiots and it is disrespectful to 1,500 people (at Mercedes) who work their nuts off to prepare the cars and this is why it needs to end.

"It seems that talking doesn't bring us any further, so we need to think about all possible solutions and go as far as implementing the not-very-popular team orders.

"This is on the table now. This is what we are going to discuss because maybe it's the only way we can manage the situation.

"I hate team orders. We owe it to the fans to let them race, but if every race ends up in a collision between team-mates, it's not what we want."
