Meet Kirsten Landman, Africa's first female Dakar Rally entrant

Cape Town - South Africa's top female off-road and enduro racer, Kirsten Landman, is taking on the ultimate challenge in 2020 - the Dakar Rally.

Following in the footsteps of some of her illustrious compatriots like Alfie Cox and Giniel de Villiers, Landman will be the first African woman to take to the start line.

Hailing from KwaZulu-Natal, Landman took up racing at the age of eight, growing up on dirt bikes which started off as just "fun" with her cousin and uncle.

Landman has subsequently gone on to achieve her Springbok colours and compete in a wide range of events both locally and internationally, such as the Redbull Romaniacs, Redbull Sea to Sky, Redbull Megawatt 111, Redbull Braveman and the Roof of Africa.

In a two-part series, we found out where Landman's love for bikes began and how a life changing accident forged her into the rider she is today.

Next year's Dakar Rally will be held in Saudi Arabia from January 5-17.
