Cape Town - There is some good news for Stoffel Vandoorne with Zak Brown saying he's done an "excellent job", McLaren just want him to beat Fernando Alonso a bit more often.
Vandoorne has struggled to do that throughout this year's championship leading to rumours that his place at McLaren is under threat.
According to the rumour mill, he could be replaced by Carlos Sainz next season and may have to look to Sauber - or even outside F1 - for a new home.
However, that could all depend on what Alonso does next, which may be revealed some time on Tuesday.
There is, however, some positive news for the under-fire Belgian racer with McLaren chief Brown saying he hasn't done a bad job this season, he just needs to get the better of Alonso more often.
"I wouldn't say we're disappointed by Stoffel," said Brown. "You'd like to see him beating his team-mate more often than he has.
"That's the same in any situation. You'd love to see your team-mates split right down the middle in beating each other every weekend.
"He's not been able to do that on a regular basis but I wouldn't say we're disappointed because last year we know we gave him a very difficult situation and this year we've not given him a very good car to work with.
"Given Fernando's talent and experience he's able to adapt to situations that aren't great.
"We all believe Stoffel's done an excellent job but we would like to see him beat Fernando more often."
