Leclerc slams virtual GP stewards

Charles Leclerc says he was left unimpressed with the race stewards at the Virtual Spanish Grand Prix.

Leclerc was involved in an intense battle with George Russell for the victory in the second half of Sunday evening’s Spanish GP.

Both drivers, however, were taking liberties at the final part of the Barcelona chicane, cutting it to get more speed.

Leclerc took it a step too far on the final lap, earning himself a three-second penalty.

He crossed the line in second place with Russell, who also had a penalty, taking the win.

Ferrari driver Leclerc admits the abuse of the track limits, which is set by the game, made it “ugly to watch”.

He told The-Race: “The only thing that’s making me a tiny bit angry, is track limits.

“It makes no sense. We need to make it clear. Because this makes it ugly to watch.

“But George was quicker anyway, so he deserves the win.”

Leclerc concedes it was disappointing to receive a penalty on the penultimate lap even if he had been pushing the limits more and more.

“The only thing is the track limits on the last corner was a bit easier than other parts of the track,” he said.

“I was trying to cut a little bit more every lap. Everyone has done that. George probably had the penalty the same way I did.

“We’re trying to go a bit more in the inside all the time, at one point I just went too much and I already had a warning, so a three-second penalty.

“It’s such a shame, the second to last lap.”
