Alfa Romeo appeal to be heard in September - team

Budapest - Alfa Romeo's appeal against the penalties they received at the German Grand Prix will be heard in Paris on September 24, the team announced on Friday.

Drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi finished the tumultuous rain-swept race seventh and eighth, but were subsequently handed 30-second penalties for technical infringements in their starting process that bumped them out of the top 10 and cost them their points.

"We have been penalised after the race and so we went for an appeal, which is the normal procedure if you think you have some strong arguments to win, otherwise you wouldn't do it," said Alfa Romeo sporting director Beat Zehnder.

"It's an ongoing process and I cannot give any more information. Everything will be disclosed on September 24 in Paris."

Raikkonen and Giovinazzi finished 12th and 13th following the penalties, which also lifted championship leader and defending five-time champion Lewis Hamilton from 11th to ninth and gave Williams their first point of the season, with Robert Kubica moving from 12th to 10th.

The first task facing the International Court of Appeal will be to confirm the appeal is admissible - if not Alfa Romeo may face a heavier sanction.
