Schumacher 'wrong to return'

2012-12-08 12:02

Paris - Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone believes Michael Schumacher was wrong to return to the sport, claiming the German had severely damaged his legacy as a seven-time world champion.

The 43-year-old Schumacher quit the sport in 2006 before being tempted into an ill-fated return in 2010 at Mercedes where he spent three seasons being largely outshone by team-mate Nico Rosberg.

He brought the curtain down on his second spell at last month's Brazilian Grand Prix where he finished seventh.

"I would rather he had stopped as a seven-time world champion than stopping now," Ecclestone said.

"People new to the sport - people who have joined the F1 fan fraternity just recently - will remember Michael now, not as he was. They don't see the hero that he was but the human that can fail."

But Ecclestone had some words of comfort for Schumacher, admitting that three-time champion Sebastian Vettel will find it hard to break his record of seven crowns.

"He is not half way there. It will be a question of how good his team will stay - or how bad the others are," said Ecclestone.

"When Michael won his five titles with Ferrari it was because Ferrari did a better job than any other team - that is the same with Red Bull at the moment. Whether they can continue, you don't know. Let's wait and see."

This is what everyone , except this little troll , felt at the time. Now that schumie retires the troll comments! Simply likes to have his bread buttered on both sides! Those muggers should have slapped him harder!

Agree, graham. Bernie was originally thrilled about Schumacher coming back, as he figured it would up attendances and viewership. Now he's slagging him off. The ONLY thing that Bernie Ecclestone is concerned with is making more and more obscene amounts of money. Well, Bernie, here's the thing: you are now in your 80's so probably have less than a decade left to live. And a hearse doesn't have a Venter trailer mate. Interesting thought, hey?

Lets get real, Bernie should P1ssed off years ago as well!

  • gavin.hundermark - 2012-12-08 10:53

HAHAHA, and they only see this now? It's all about the money "Let's bring back Schumi, he'll bring our ratings and viewership back up again". Unfortunately you lost most of your ratings and viewership thanks to Schumi originally (team orders, Austria 2002, ring a bell?). At long last (hopefully) we will finally be rid of the ego - Bernie, you are next to go.

Bernie you undersized, overaged, senile turd with the worst hair on the planet. Let's examine your F1 career: 2 Races - Silverstone 58 & Montecarlo 58 Wins 0 Podiums 0 Finishes 0 Starts 0 Not qualified 2 Bernie if you didn't tuck your wallet down the front of your shorts to get underaged chicks you would have to hang out with Max Mosley at Nazi themed massage parlours. Shut up

      Luyanda - 2012-12-08 14:35

Please Sir/Madam. Bernie is a Know-It-ALL Pensioner. RESPECT,at least. Please???

      goyougoodthing - 2012-12-08 19:54

      Respect for what reason?

  • bruce.kendall.10 - 2012-12-08 11:06

F1 must be the biggest TV bore.I have great respect for the technology in the sport but beyond that it is a money making racket for those at the top.Bring on Touring cars, something that we can sort of relate to?All those that have to make a "Comeback" in all sports prove time and time again its a failure.Let see what Rossi can show at yamaha now???..........Make way for newcomers to the sport rather than bringing back the "Hasbeens" My 5c worth for the day

Like watching paint dry. I like watching the crashes at the start.

BE, what an ExhaustHole you are.

    Disastrous comeback Schumi.

  • Luyanda - 2012-12-08 14:48

As I see it,2 Positives came out of Schumi's comeback. 1} He showed that HE IS NOT SUPERMAN ala Tiger Woods,Hansie Cronje,Lance Armstrong etc. 2} PAYED somehow his DUES to Mercedes Benz for adding value to his Talent as a former Development Driver. As for Bernie Ecclestone, the Old Man MUST OPINE for his NEXT BILLION POUNDS i.e has to sing like a ruffled Canary to justify his involvement in F1.

Schumi's legacy will never be damaged for the real racing fan contrary to what Ecclestone contends. Of course the codger has to have his name in the news if only by attempting to blight Schumi's record.

  • shaun.brooks.79 - 2012-12-09 09:13

Bernie...you don't get it...cause you don't understand what it takes to be Michael....a man like him isn't racing to only win world titles...you don't get 7 wins unless its in your dna Bernie...what did you think...he would go and do gardening or make stupid comments like you??? He is Michael Shumacher,...always will be....who are you Bernie???

  • shaun.brooks.79 - 2012-12-09 09:15

How does a guy like that get to make comments about Michael...I guess money talks...why do they publish his clever opinions??? as if he knows what it takes to win 7....eat your porridge and go to bed Bernie

  • rudzanimulaudzi.mulaudzi - 2012-12-09 14:29

I believe the point for Michael to go back was not to win the race but, its combination of sponsors involvement, pulicity and the advertisement of the game itself because he's got massive followers including me.

  • deshmook - 2012-12-12 17:13

    20Million USD per year....

  • Maartins Siphiso - 2013-06-21 06:59

100% Correct Bernie, this cheat made a HUGE idiot of himself, but he proved a point. He proved that he is no racers' @ss. He got nowhere, always falling back, losing places, causing crashes.
