Kuun wins Sasol Rally

Johannesburg - After the demise of the first and second-placed cars on SS11 on Saturday, Enzo Kuun and Guy Hodgson (Class S2000 Volkswagen Polo) came away with the spoils of victory on the 2010 Sasol Rally.

The event, which started in warm sunny conditions on Friday, and ended cold and wet on Saturday, was going the way of overnight leaders Conrad Rautenbach / Peter Marsh (S2000 Ford Fiesta) before they were sidelined by a collision with a rock in stage 11. In the same stage, Hergen Fekken / Pierre Arries retired their S2000 VW Polo with gearbox problems.

Kuun was often fastest, but it was his consistency that paid off rather than raw pace. Nevertheless, he won stages 4, 7 and 9 while Rautenbach and Fekken battled for the lead, and then aced stages 11, 14 and 15 after they were removed from proceedings. Johnny Gemmell / Philip Archenoul brought their S2000 Toyota Auris home in second place, half a minute behind Kuun, with Jan Habig / Ralph Pitchford (S2000 VW Polo) third, 49 sec behind Kuun.
