Cape Town - Rickie Fowler has broken the internet with his shrug of the shoulders picture after helping his USA side to victory in this year's Ryder Cup.

The United States regained the Ryder Cup for the first time since 2008 with a convincing 17-11 victory over Europe at Hazeltine on Sunday.

However, it was Fowler who stole the show with the "shot" of the tournament.

In a team photo taken at the conclusion of the event, team USA golfers brought their partners in for a celebratory shot.

The photo of the unaccompanied 27-year-old Fowler shrugging as his team-mates kissed their partners took social media by storm.

Fowler beat Rio Olympic gold medal winner, Justin Rose, 1-up in their singles match.
