Los Angeles - Australian golfer John Senden said Saturday he'll take an indefinite break from the game to be with his teenage son Jacob, who has been diagnosed with a brain tumor.
"Our son is undertaking the biggest challenge of his life thus far, having been diagnosed with a brain tumor," said Senden in a statement issued through the PGA Tour.
The two-time US tour winner, whose four international victories include the 2006 Australian Open, had withdrawn from this week's Zurich Classic of New Orleans before it began and said he was putting his career on hold to be with his wife, Jackie, and 13-year-old Jacob.
The family have a home in Dallas, Texas.
"I have no timeline for my return to the PGA Tour at this stage," the 46-year-old from Brisbane said.
"As a family, we appreciate the support and kindness that everyone has offered us at this difficult time and ask that you keep Jacob in your prayers and hearts.
"Together, we will stand strong to tackle this disease and look forward to the day when Jacob is cancer free."
