Tiger swings into Australia

Melbourne - World No 1 Tiger Woods arrived in Australia aboard his private jet Monday, days ahead of his first appearance in an Australian tournament in 11 years.

Woods will receive A$3.3 million ($3 million) in appearance fees to play in the A$1.5 million Australian Masters, which starts at Melbourne's Kingston Heath course on Thursday.

The most recent of Woods's three previous tournament appearances in Australia was as a 21-year-old member of the US team which lost the 1998 Presidents Cup in Melbourne.

Woods finished sixth behind Phil Mickelson on the weekend at the WGC event at Shanghai, China.
