Sunshine Tour launches new Limpopo tournament

Cape Town - The Sunshine Tour has launched the new R1.5 million Limpopo Championship which will be held from March 7-10, 2019 at a course yet to be confirmed, but rumoured to be Euphoria Golf & Lifestyle Estate.

This latest Sunshine Tour tournament is powered by the Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) and will feature a field of 156 professionals competing in a 72-hole stroke play format.

The addition of Limpopo Championship to the Sunshine Tour schedule was welcomed in the golf fraternity.

“We are delighted to announce the new Limpopo Championship, which is one of several new tournaments we will be announcing and which gives us a really strong local base for our professionals to start their year off at home,” said Selwyn Nathan, Commissioner of the Sunshine Tour.

The Limpopo Championship is poised to attract a strong field as players race to qualify for the Sunshine Tour’s season-ending Tour Championship. The organisers will make a concerted effort to attract more players from the SADC region and even further into the continent to make this a truly African spectacle.

The province of Limpopo is becoming a leading tourism destination in Southern Africa, so the addition of the Limpopo Championship to the already diverse destination portfolio of the province is a natural fit. The tournament complements the Limpopo Tourism Agency’s mission of offering and promoting diverse tourism experiences in collaboration with stakeholders and the drive for sector transformation.

The four-day golf extravaganza offers golfers and non-golfers an opportunity to sample the numerous tourist offerings of the region, venue and surrounding communities. Participants and spectators can enjoy tailor-made tournament packages that include entertainment, spa treatments, cable car rides, excursions and local food sampling.

“As the event organisers, Endaweni Media is very excited to form part of the Sunshine Tour golf offering in the Limpopo province. The golf tournament will become an annual spectacle that partners with local communities and government in order to stimulate economic growth and all-inclusive participation,” said Jimmy Headbush, Managing Director of Endaweni Media.
