Basson’s blitz earns Alfred Dunhill Championship lead

Leopard Creek - Christiaan Basson had an idea that he was headed for something special, but he didn’t know it was going be this special.

The Cape professional opened with an eight-under-par 64 to take a three-stroke clubhouse lead on day one of the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek on Thursday according to the Sunshine Tour website

Play was suspended because of lightning. The first round will resume at 6:30am on Friday. Basson’s nearest challengers are Zimbabwe’s Mark Williams and England’s Matt Ford on five-under, with three-time champion Charl Schwartzel also on five under but with the par-five 18th still to complete.
