Cape Town - South Africa's Dylan Frittelli is within touching distance of the top 50 in the world golf rankings after his win at the Mauritius Open on Sunday.

The South African shot a 16-under-par 268 to tie the lead with India's Arjun Atwal, before going on to win on the first playoff hole - the par-five 18th - with a birdie at Heritage Golf Club.

The win was Frittelli's second European Tour title after securing his maiden win at the Lyoness Open in June this year.

Frittelli jumped 12 places - from 67th to 55th - in the official world golf rankings, making him the fourth-highest ranked SA golfer, behind Louis Oosthuizen (23), Branden Grace (30) and Charl Schwartzel (33).

"I'm very excited about that. It was my major goal after winning in Austria to get inside that top 50 and secure some big tournaments next year," said the 27-year-old.

"This is validation of all the hard work I've put in.

"It means a lot to win. Some guys might say, 'Oh, you won against an easy field in Austria'. Well I've won a tri-sanctioned event now against a very strong field today," said Frittelli.

There's no rest for Frittelli, as he will tee up in this week's Joburg Open at the Randpark Golf Club.

The R16.5 million tournament will once again form part of the Open Championship's International Qualifying, offering three spots into the major for the leading three finishers in the top 10 who are not already exempt.
