High winds see play suspended in St Francis

St Francis - Winds from up to 70 kilometres per hour brought a premature end to play on Thursday in the first round of the R750 000 Vodacom Origins of Golf Final being played at St Francis Links.

With only two players through just nine holes, play was set to resume at 6.30am on Friday, with tournament officials aiming to get the second round underway as soon as possible in the hope of completing it on the second day.

The wind made scoring difficult, but four players had managed to get to one-under-par: Nigeria’s Andrew Odoh, Christiaan Basson, Scot Doug McGuigan were all through six holes when play was called off, and Lindani Ndwandwe had completed three.

One stroke back was a group of nine players on level par, including Jacques Blaauw, who had endured a marathon trip back to South Africa from China after finishing the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions tournament there on Sunday.
