Euphoric sixth title for Ahlers

Cape Town - Jaco Ahlers earned his third Sunshine Tour win of the season and a sixth overall title as he cruised to a three-stroke win at the Vodacom Origins of Golf Euphoria, held at Euphoria Golf Estate and Hydro.

Ahlers finished the 54-hole event on nine-under-par, with Jacques Kruyswijk his nearest challenger on six-under, and, the final day saw a completion of round two under searing temperatures.

“I’m a bit tired now I must say. 28 holes today in 30-plus heat - it’s been a long day. It does feel good and it has been coming. It’s promising and it is really nice,” said Ahlers.

The heavily weather-delayed tournament caused a late finish on Saturday evening, however, Ahlers kept his cool to hold onto victory.

“I think it’s a more experienced outfit. It shows. I’ve been playing solidly and today was all experience. Being there before and handing it, it just makes it a little bit easier,” he said.

With the lucrative co-sanctioned events on the horizon, Ahlers is eyeing another win in the near future, and if he achieves further silverware, he will echo the achievement of Dean Burmester from last year.

“The next goal is to have another one,” he laughed. “Hopefully we can have another one. Obviously Dean did it last year and it definitely isn’t impossible but we’ll just keep playing from here.”

Danie van Tonder finished in sole possession of third place, while Toto Thimba carded a six-under 66 to finish in fourth place alongside Stephen Ferreira, Hennie du Plessis and Zander Lombard.
