Advantage Kruyswijk in storm-struck Euphoria

Mookgophong - Morning thunderstorms in a drought-stricken Limpopo delayed play during the second round of the R700 000 Vodacom Origins of Golf event at Euphoria Golf Estate and Hydro on Friday, and when play was abandoned for the day, Jacques Kruyswijk found himself in a share of the lead.

He was two-under through six holes, and six-under for the tournament together with first-round leader Erik van Rooyen, who was also through six holes and had made a bogey to slip back to five-under for the tournament - one shot ahead of Danie van Tonder and Jaco Ahlers.

The best of the players who had completed their rounds was Hennie du Plessis, who won the Sunshine Tour Qualifying School in 2014. He carded a one-under 71 to finish the second round at three-under.

Also on the prowl was last week’s winner, Christiaan Bezuidenhout. The rookie, who finished runner-up in the BMW SA Open behind Brandon Stone, took his maiden Sunshine Tour title at the Fish River Sun tournament, and was two-under through six holes when play was called off. At three-under for the tournament, he was very much in contention.

The second round will be completed on Saturday morning, after which the cut will be made to the top 40 players and ties, and the final round of the 54-hole event will start at 10:45.
