Cape Town - American professional Cheyenne Woods, the niece of Tiger Woods, will make her first appearance in the Gary Player Invitational at Sun City next month, joining Grand Slam champion Gary Player and other notable golfers, celebrities, sports stars and business leaders in the charity tournament.

Woods has confirmed her place in the tournament at The Lost City Golf Course from 16-17 November, and which is aimed at raising funds for the Wildlands Conservation Trust.

“I’ve always been interested in South Africa and its history,” said Cheyenne Woods. “I’ve always wanted to come here. At the Masters this year I spoke to Gary Player and he told me a lot about the country.”

After a successful amateur career in which she won over 30 tournaments, Woods turned professional in 2012. She broke through with her first professional victory on the Suncoast Ladies Series that same year.

Woods is currently in her debut season on the Ladies European Tour, and has a top finish of tied for 12th in the Lalla Meryem Cup. She is also through to Stage 3 of the LPGA Tour Qualifying School as she attempts to gain her playing privileges there.

“It’s wonderful to have women’s golf represented in our tournament by such a vibrant young talent as Cheyenne,” said tournament host and golfing icon Player.

“She will serve as such an inspiration for so many young girls in South Africa. Her genuine interest in this country and its history is a great asset to this tournament and our efforts to raise as much money for charity as we can.”
