Gibbs joins Gary Player field

Cape Town - Former Proteas' cricket star Herschelle Gibbs has joined the field for the Gary Player Invitational which will be played at the Lost City Golf Course from November 16-17.

Gibbs forms part of a strong field of professional golfers, celebrities and businessmen who have gathered for the charity tournament.

"I was fortunate enough to play in the 2002 Gary Player Invitational at Pecanwood," Gibbs said in a statement on Tuesday.

"It's been a long time since then, so I'm really looking forward to this one. Gary is a wonderful human being. He's a very caring and humble man. He's achieved everything there is to achieve in golf, and he's a true icon of the sport.

"It's a privilege for me to be part of the Gary Player Invitational again. Hopefully I won't be as nervous as the first time I played."

The cricket legend will play alongside professional golfers Retief Goosen, Tony Johnstone, Niclas Fasth, Thomas Levet and Cheyenne Woods to raise funds for the Wildlands Conservation Trust and Wings and Wishes.

Player said he was delighted to welcome Gibbs back to the tournament.

"I am a great admirer of Herschelle and thrilled to be welcoming him back to this year's tournament," said Player.

"It's always good to see old faces back again, showing their support to raise money for our chosen beneficiaries of this great tournament."
