Cape Town - Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel got off to an embarrassing start in the second round of the Zurich Classic at TPC Louisiana on Friday.

The South African duo had a brilliant opening round in New Orleans, carding an 8-under par 64.

On Friday, however, the format was foursomes with parings playing alternate shots - and the South African duo struggled on their opening hole.

Starting their round on the back nine, SA's top ranked golfer Oosthuizen teed off on the par-4 10th first, but hooked his drive left and out of bounds, which meant 2011 Masters champion Schwartzel had to reload, but he fared no better, blocking his tee shot to the right which also resulted in a lost ball!

Oosthuizen eventually found the fairway with what was their fifth shot.

The duo eventually settled for a quintuple-bogey nine and fell to 3-under par walking to their second hole.

The Zurich Classic field will be cut from 80 teams to the top 35 and ties following the second round with the projected cut line at 7-under par.

Oosthuizen and Schwartzel signed for a second round of 6-over par 78 to lie T73rd on 2-under par, well outside the cut mark.

There are seven South Africans competing in the Zurich Classic this week.

International Presidents Cup captain Ernie Els and vice-captain Trevor Immelman are playing together, Branden Grace and Justin Harding are the other dynamic SA duo and Dylan Frittelli is playing alongside Chilean Joaquin Niemann.
