Woods, McIlroy confirm 2020 debuts at Torrey Pines

Los Angeles - Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy will both make their first competitive appearances of the year at the Farmers Insurance Open from January 23-26.

McIlroy revealed earlier this week he will be making his second consecutive appearance at Torrey Pines in California, while Woods also announced he will be bidding for an eighth victory at the same event.

The duo then both take the following week off before returning to action in the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club, where Woods also serves as tournament host.

“Excited for this season to begin,” Woods tweeted.

“See you soon west coast.”

Every PGA Tour event Woods enters now will give him the opportunity to set the outright record for PGA Tour victories, having equalled Sam Snead's record haul of 82 titles when he won the inaugural Zozo Championship in Japan in October - and the excitement starts at Torrey Pines.

“The fact that Tiger will have his first opportunity to set the all-time record for PGA TOUR wins at the Farmers Insurance Open is truly fitting,” said Marty Gorsich, CEO of the Century Club of San Diego, which operates the event.

“Tiger has had such remarkable success here, dating back to his eighth career victory when he won this tournament for the first time in 1999. What he has done since returning from his back injuries has been great for the game of golf, and we are excited to welcome him back for a fourth consecutive year.”

Woods also expressed his delight at the Genesis Invitational being given elevated status by the PGA Tour. He now hosts the event every year, having made his PGA Tour debut there as a teenage amateur in 1992.

The Genesis Invitational will be held from February 13-16 at The Riviera Country Club.
