Cape Town - Jordan Spieth claimed his second Australian Open title on the weekend and believes success in Sydney could well trigger another brilliant season.
In 2014, Spieth won this event at the Australian Golf Club. In the 2015 season that came after, he went on to win the US Masters and the US Open.
He also achieved top-five finishes at the PGA Championship and The Open.
He consequently claimed the FedEx Cup and a whole host of other awards which included the PGA Player of the Year.
On Sunday, after getting to 12-under-par 276 after 72 holes, Spieth won the Australian Open as he made a birdie at the first play-off hole, fending off the challenges of locals Cameron Smith and Ashley Hall.
Speaking afterwards, the 23-year-old American admitted that he was extremely pleased with the manner in which he dealt with the pressure of the three-way play-off.
"The way we played the playoff, I think is going to do wonders for me," Spieth told PGA Australia.
"I've been in a little bit of a stall hitting shots when they mattered.
“To hit those two shots in there, right where I wanted to hit them and then make the putt is really big going forward."
Reflecting on how important his 2014 Australian Open victory was, Spieth went on to say that Sunday could be the start of another special 12 months for him in the sport.
"The best I ever hit it was actually the week after I played the Australian Open in 2014," Spieth added.
"I hit the ball well here (at the 2014 Australian Open), played a fantastic final round and went on and took that victory into my best ball-striking week I've ever had as a golfer at Tiger's event in Orlando. And I hope to do the same here."
