Rahm and Palmer grab lead at storm-hit PGA pairs event

New Orleans - Spain's Jon Rahm and American Ryan Palmer combined to complete a seven-under par 65 second round on Saturday to seize the halfway lead at the storm-hit US PGA Zurich Classic.

Rahm and Palmer led on 15-under 129 after 36 holes at the TPC of Louisiana near New Orleans in the pairs event, featuring four-ball (best ball) first and third rounds and foursomes (alternate shot) in the second and final rounds.

One stroke off the pace were Americans Billy Hurley and Peter Malnati, the overnight leaders after finishing a second-round 67 on Friday, and Slovakia's Rory Sabbatini and American Brian Gay.

Half the field of 80 duos was unable to finish on Friday after storms hit the event for the second consecutive day.

Rahm and Palmer, who began on the back nine, opened with three birdies in a row, added another at the par-5 18th, and two more at the first and fourth before edging ahead on a birdie at the par-3 ninth.

In all, 39 pairs made the cut to reach the afternoon third round with organizers hopeful of returning to schedule and having a Sunday finish.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
