Piller grabs share of lead at Colonial

Washington - Hometown hero Martin Piller completed a four-under par 66 second round Saturday to match fellow American Webb Simpson for the 36-hole lead at the US PGA Dean and Deluca Invitational.

Piller, who grew up near host Colonial in Fort Worth, Texas, shook off a double bogey at the par-5 11th with morning birdies at the par-3 13th, par-4 15th and closing hole to equal Friday finisher Simpson, the 2012 US Open champion, on eight-under 132.

Storms delayed the start of play on Friday for five and a half hours, forcing 61 players to complete their second rounds on Saturday morning. In all, 70 players made the cut on one over par.

World number two and reigning US Open champion Jordan Spieth lurks one stroke off the pace along with fellow Americans Bryce Molder, Kyle Reifers and Ryan Palmer.

Spieth will play alongside the co-leaders in a final trio as organizers try to complete the third round Saturday despite forecasts of more storm delays.

Spieth, who squandered a last-day lead to lose the Masters and missed the cut at the Players Championship, finished his second round before darkness Friday while Molder, who led by one with four holes to finish at sunset, made bogeys at 16 and 18 to stumble back.
