Cape Town - The PGA Tour have released a statement in response to the arrest of Ryder Cup golfer Thorbjorn Olesen last week.
The 29-year-old Dane, who played for Europe in the Ryder Cup last year, is alleged to have committed sexual assault on a British Airways flight from Memphis to Heathrow.
He was returning to Europe from playing in the WGC-FedEx Cup Invitational.
Olesen is also accused of urinating in an aisle of the airplane, and of verbally abusing passengers and crew on board the flight.
While Olesen is a European Tour golfer, it hasn’t stopped the PGA Tour from speaking out.
"These are very serious and deeply troubling allegations," it said in a statement.
"Even though he is not a member of the PGA Tour, a claim of this magnitude is something we take very seriously.
"We are in close contact with our counterparts at the European Tour, and we will not provide further comment until additional information is available from the authorities."
