McIlroy making good on PGA Tour promise

Cape Town - Rory McIlroy will play at the Farmers Insurance Open for the first time in his career later this month.

The Northern Irishman revealed late last year that he plans to play many more PGA Tour events in the hope of getting into shape to win the Masters, the final feather missing in his major cap.

McIlroy has made good on that promise so far, already playing at the Sentry Tournament of Champions earlier this year, where he finished tied for fourth.

"I'll definitely play once before LA, I'm going to play LA (Genesis Open, Riviera), I'll probably play once before that but I sort of haven't made my mind up yet," said the four-time major winner after the event.

Joining McIlroy in the high-class field in San Diego is defending champion Jason Day, FedEx Cup champion Justin Rose as well as Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler.
