Cape Town - Dustin Johnson will miss this week's Hero World Challenge, with tournament host Tiger Woods leading a stellar 18-man field ahead of next week's Presidents Cup in Melbourne.

Woods will take on the role of playing captain for the American side against the Rest of the World in Australia, and has moved his own tournament in the Bahamas to a Wednesday-Saturday event to give players time to make the opening ceremony Down Under.

Only the injured Dustin Johnson is missing from Woods' side at Albany Golf Course, with 10 of the remaining 11 players on the US team paired together for the opening rounds.

In all likelihood that is to give Masters champion Woods an early look at potential pairings before the US look to make it eight wins in a row against the Internationals.

Newly-crowned Race to Dubai champion Jon Rahm leads a strong overseas contingent in the Bahamas, with the Spaniard defending the title he captured 12 months ago on debut.

Johnson is absent as he takes an extra week's rest to prepare for the Presidents Cup, with Chez Reavie gaining a late entry into the field for the $3.5 million event.
