Frittelli banks R15m after maiden PGA Tour win

Cape Town - South Africa's Dylan Frittelli romped to his maiden PGA Tour title in winning the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois on Sunday.

The 29-year-old Johannesburg-born star produced a bogey-free 7-under-par 64 final round to secure a two-shot win

He became the second South African to win the John Deere Classic after David Frost went back-to-back in 1992 and 1993.

Frittelli's win was the first time a South African has won on the PGA Tour since Branden Grace's RBC Heritage victory in April 2016.

Frittelli banked a cool $1 080 000 (R15 million) for his triumph.

He also become South Africa's fifth highest-ranked golfer, moving up 41 places to 92nd.

Frittelli's win earned him a place in this week's Open Championship at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.

"I'm super excited to go to Ireland and play there," Frittelli told reporters following his win.

"I actually played the 2013 Irish Open there so I've seen Portrush. I'm probably a step ahead of a few guys as I wouldn't have to play as many practice holes so I think I can compete there.

"Hopefully I can get the ball rolling, hopefully we get some good weather and make some birdies."

Frittelli, who was playing in his first John Deere Classic tournament, also earned a two-year exemption to the PGA Tour, which will take him through the 2020/21 season.

He also earned a spot into various 2020 fields as the Sentry Tournament of Champions, Players Championship, Masters and PGA Championship.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
