Els shoots 80 in 100th Major start

Charlotte - South Africa's Ernie Els was hoping to make a splash in his 100th major championship, but the "Big Easy" is off to a rocky start at the PGA Championship.

The 47-year-old Els posted a 9-over round of 80 to lie tied for 138th out of the 156 starters.

American Phil Mickelson, also playing in his 100th Major, fared little better, posting an opening 79.
