Oosthuizen banks R10.4 million

Cape Town - South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen came oh-so-close to winning the 144th Open Championship - but did bank R10.4 million to help ease the pain...

Oosthuizen lost out in a three-man playoff on Monday to eventual winner, American Zach Johnson.

It was Oosthuizen's second consecutive Major runner-up finish after he fell agonisingly short at Chambers Bay in the US Open in June.

It was also Oosthuizen's second Major playoff defeat after losing out to American Bubba Watson at the 2012 Masters at Augusta National.

Oosthuizen's runner-up finish at St Andrews was worth a cool $837 262 (R10.4m).

The other South Africans to make the cut and cash a cheque were:

T20 - Branden Grace and Retief Goosen - $95 938 (R1.2m)

T65 - Ernie Els - $23 955 (R300 000)

T68 - Charl Schwartzel  - $23 331 (R290 000)

80 - Thomas Aiken - $21 848 (R272 000m)

Just curious, anyone know if R10.4 million can buy you a tractor... ?
