Cape Town - South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen has seen his bank balance balloon by a cool R10m following his victory at the 139th British Open at St. Andrews on Sunday.
Oosthuizen walked away with €1 011 840 (R10m) for his four days work in the rain, wind and sunshine at the famed Old Course.
With his victory, Oosthuizen, 28, jumped to No 5 in the European Tour's Race to Dubai standings.
The long-hitting Oosthuizen was one of five South Africans to make the cut in the year's third Major.
Retief Goosen finished alone in sixth place. His rounds of 69-70-72-70 were good enough for €208 320 (R2m).
Thanks to a fast weekend finish (71-75-68-70), Charl Schwartzel, earned €68 076 (R675 000) for his troubles in finishing in a tie for 14th.
Trevor Immelman (T23rd) opened and closed with four-under par rounds of 68, but struggled in rounds two (74) and three (75). Nevertheless, the 2008 Masters champion's efforts were worth €49 996.80 (R495 000).
Thomas Aiken recorded rounds of 71-73-77-74. His tie for 74th was worth €12 677.76 (R125 000).
Ernie Els (69, 79), Jean Hugo (76, 75), Tim Clark (71, 80), Darren Fichardt (74, 78) and Josh Cunliffe (75, 77) were the South Africans who had the weekend off.
