Expectant dad Grace jumps in rankings

Cape Town - Branden Grace not only broke South Africa's 10-year drought by clinching the Nedbank Golf Challenge on Sunday, he also revealed that he will be a dad for the first time.

Grace shot a flawless six-under-par 66 in the final round to finish on 11-under for the tournament and win by a single stroke from Scotland's Scott Jamieson at the Gary Player Country Club.

The 29-year-old became the first South African since Trevor Immelman in 2007 to win 'Africa's major' at Sun City.

It was also his first win of the season and Grace pocketed a cool €1 069 290 (R18m) for his efforts.

Before he lifted up the crystal ball trophy, Grace revealed that he and his wife Nieke are expecting their first child, a boy.

The couple got married in November 2016.

Following his victory, Grace jumped 13 places - from 42nd to 29th - in the world golf rankings, making him the second highest ranked SA golfer, behind Louis Oosthuizen (22).

Grace's win was his eighth European Tour title also saw him climb the Race of the Dubai rankings and he now sits in ninth spot heading into the final tournament of the season, the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai which starts on Thursday at the Jumeirah Golf Estates.
