Goosen out of British Open

Sandwich - Retief Goosen has withdrawn from the British Open after injuring his back.

The two-time US Open champion from South Africa shot a 6-over 76 in the first round at Royal St. George's but pulled out of the tournament before beginning his second round, scheduled to start at 14:32 on Friday.

The 21st-ranked Goosen finished sixth at last year's British Open at St. Andrews and has had two fifth-place showings.
