Copenhagen - Matt Wallace triumphed in a four-man playoff at the Made in Denmark tournament on Sunday as local hero Thorbjorn Olesen clinched his place on Europe's Ryder Cup team.
Englishman Wallace birdied five of his last six holes to finish on a total of 19-under alongside compatriots Lee Westwood, Steven Brown and Jonathan Thomson, before taking the title on the second playoff hole.
Olesen, who entered the event in a battle with Matthew Fitzpatrick and Eddie Pepperell for the last of eight Ryder Cup qualifying spots, ended in a tie for 20th on 11-under.
Both Fitzpatrick, who represented Europe at Hazeltine in 2016, and Pepperell had needed to win in Aarhus to pip Olesen to a place on the team skippered by Thomas Bjorn.
Fitzpatrick finished three strokes adrift of the leading quartet while Pepperell was well down the field in a share for 56th on five-under.
"Cannot put into words how happy I am right now! It's always been my dream to be a Ryder Cup Player, but it's going to be even more special with my great friend @ThomasBjornGolf as captain! Bring it on," Olesen tweeted.
The 28-year-old joins Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Alex Noren, Francesco Molinari, Justin Rose, Tyrrell Hatton and Tommy Fleetwood on the team to face the United States at Le Golf National near Paris on September 28-30.
Bjorn will announce his four captain's picks on Wednesday to round out the 12-man team.
US captain Jim Furyk unveiled the first eight members of his squad last month, with Jordan Spieth, Bubba Watson, Webb Simpson, Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Justin Thomas and Brooks Koepka all qualifying automatically.
Furyk will name a further three players on Tuesday following the conclusion of the Dell Technologies Championship, the second event of the FedEx Cup playoffs.
He will then make one final pick on September 10.
Tiger Woods, up to 26th in the world rankings from beyond 1 200 last December, is expected to be one of those selected by Furyk after an impressive runner-up finish at the PGA Championship.
