Cape Town - Jon Rahm will play in his first European Tour event since turning professional in 2016 at this week's Open de France.

The Spaniard has enjoyed a superlative run this year, notching up his first win of any kind at the Farmers Insurance Open and backing it up with no less than six top ten finishes.

Now, the 22-year-old looks to open up a new chapter of his golfing career, oddly enough at a course he is familiar with.

"I'm obviously very excited for many possible reasons," quipped the world No 11 on

"This is probably one of the best golf courses I've ever played. I played it when I was 14, 15 years old in the European Young Masters in 2009 and it's changed quite a bit since then, and so have I, so I really wanted to come back.

"Being one of the Rolex Series events, being one of the most important events of the year, I wanted to come here and hopefully show my support and try and play as best as I can.

"It's obviously a beautiful course. It's a great design. It's challenging in every aspect. You do hit almost every single club in the bag and courses that make you do that are really fun to play. I mean, I can't think of anything bad to say about the golf course. It really is amazing."

15 South Africans will be teeing off at Le Golf National on Thursday with former Masters winner Trevor Immelman part of the star-studded field.

Jbe Kruger, Trevor Fisher Jnr, Zander Lombard, Hennie Otto, Dylan Frittelli, Dean Burmester, Darren Fichardt, Brandon Stone, Haydn Porteous, Richard Sterne, George Coetzee, Jaco Van Zyl, Thomas Aiken and Justin Walters will fly the flag high for SA in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Paris.
