Pieters looks to rediscover his mojo in 2019

Cape Town - Four-time European Tour winner Thomas Pieters is trying rediscover his mojo, after what was a mediocre 2018 campaign.

His current world golf ranking of 71 simply cannot be justified, given his natural ability and mental fortitude. Many experts agree that the best way for any professional to improve his game is to play as consistently as possible.

In the case of Pieters, that means participating in the exhibition-style tournaments too. Among those is the World Super 6 Perth at Lake Karrinyup Country Club. Pieters committed to playing the tournament this week.

He is among six players who have already committed to taking part in the Perth shindig. The others include Englishman Tom Lewis, Australian Lucas Herbert, New Zealander Ryan Fox, Spaniard Jorge Campillo and Japan's Yusaku Miyazato - not exactly the strongest of fields just yet.

"I always enjoy playing in Australia and from what I remember, Lake Karrinyup is a fantastic layout that I am looking forward to playing again,” Pieters told the European Tour this week.

There is perhaps an argument to make that tournaments like the one in Perth actually do more damage to the game than good. Pieters is not convinced that is the case.

"I enjoyed playing and hosting the Belgian Knockout. Different formats of the game are interesting and help engage the fans. I think these tournaments are helping move golf in a positive direction," added Pieters.

The jury is probably out on just how much those tournaments do for a golfer’s game though.

The European Tour continues in the United Arab Emirates midway through January - a tournament which features in the prestigious Rolex Series. It is also the start of the so-called Desert Swing, which includes the Dubai Desert Classic and the Saudi International (a new tournament in 2019).

After that the European Tour heads down under, for the Vic Open and then the World Super 6 Perth.
