Kaymer braces for breeze at Qatar Masters

Doha - The Qatar Masters got under way in Doha on Thursday with Germany's Martin Kaymer hoping to make an impact following six years without a major win.

This week's event, which concludes on Sunday, has shifted from its previous home at the Doha Golf Club to the Education City Golf Club, and as in Oman, wind threatens to be a challenge.

"I've been playing well," said Kaymer, the former European number one whose last major victory was at the 2014 US Open Championship.

"I'm working a lot on the short game, trying to get that putter in the right momentum."

The 35-year-old said the wind at last week's Oman Open was useful preparation for Qatar's blustery conditions.

"We had it already last week in Oman when it was really windy," Kaymer said.

"Here it feels like it is more gusty so that will be very difficult.

"You will have some shots where you will get unlucky, it's just a matter of accepting the good and the bad breaks and just go with it - there's not much you can do."
