McIlroy remains Open host until 2018

London - Rory McIlroy says he will continue to host the Irish Open until 2018 on behalf of his charity, with sponsorship also secured for the next three years.

Prize money for the tournament, which will be hosted at The K Club in May 2016, will rise by 60 percent, from $2.85 million to $4.5 million.

McIlroy says "the Irish Open has always meant so much to me" and "I am sure The K Club... will be an excellent venue for the 2016 Irish Open."

McIlroy pledged to donate any winnings from the 2015 Irish Open to his foundation but missed the midway cut.

His involvement in the event saw Rickie Fowler of the United States compete in the field. He finished tied 30th.
