Cape Town - West Indies have roped in former captain Ramnaresh Sarwan as a batting consultant ahead of the Cricket World Cup that gets underway in May.
Sarwan, who retired in 2016 after a 13-year international career, has already started working with the batting group at a training camp in Barbados ahead of a tour to Ireland next month.
It is not yet clear if Sarwan will stay on with the team for the global tournament in England but he was offered a role on the coaching staff by West Indies director of cricket, Jimmy Adams.
"I am very excited to be here. When I received the call
from Jimmy, I was very overwhelmed at being asked to assist West Indies
cricket again," said Sarwan.
"I have come here to act as kind of a mentor to the players and try my best to assist them in any technical ways and with any shortcomings where I think they can improve, and to offer as much help to the head coach, Floyd Reifer, and his coaching staff.
"I am really grateful for the opportunity and I am looking forward to sharing my knowledge with the players, even though it will just be a few days, and hoping it will help them in some way or other."
Sarwan played 87 Tests, 181 ODIs and 18 T20Is for the Windies between the year 2000 and 2016.
