Cape Town - Bangladesh opening batsman Tamim Iqbal has been ruled out of the second Test against South Africa, starting in Bloemfontein on Friday, after sustaining a thigh injury.
The left-handed Tamim picked up the injury during a three-day warm-up match in Benoni before the first Test in Potchefstroom, which the Tigers went on to lose by 333 runs.
Tamim registered scores of 39 and 0 as the tourists fell behind in the two-match series.
A scan after the first Test confirmed the scale of the injury, a grade 1 tear that usually takes four weeks to heal, which means the left-hander is also a doubtful starter for the three-match ODI series against the Proteas that starts on 15 October.
Tamim will stay with the team in South Africa with Soumya Sarkar likely to replace him in the starting XI for the second Test.
With all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan already not with the squad after being rested, Bangladesh will be without their two leading run-scorers in Test cricket for the second game against the Proteas.
