Steve Waugh’s son makes headlines

Cape Town - New South Wales Metro batsman Austin Waugh - the son of former Australian captain Steve - has smashed an unbeaten, match-winning century in the final of the Under-17 National Championships in Brisbane.

Waugh’s unbeaten 122 came off just 136 deliveries, and included four 4s and four 6s, after NSW Metro had slipped to 57/4 against Queensland.

The teenager propelled his side to a total of 274/6 from 50 overs at Allan Border Field.

NSW Metro dismissed Queensland for 122 in reply to secure a 152-run win.

The knock took Waugh’s tournament tally to 372 runs from eight innings, at an average of 74.4.
