STAT ATTACK | 2019 a record low for Test draws

Cape Town - 2019 was a record year for results in Tests, with only four of the 39 matches played in the last 12 months ending in stalemates.

According to cricket stats guru, Andrew Samson, four out of 39 - or 10.26% - is the lowest percentage of draws in Tests in a calendar year since 1932, some 87 years ago.

In 1932, only seven Tests were played - and all seven had a winner.

In addition, the four draws in 2019 were all rain-affected matches.

Those matches were: Australia v India (Sydney), England v Australia (Lord's), New Zealand v England (Hamilton) and Pakistan v Sri Lanka (Rawalpindi).

South Africa's Test record in 2019 read: Played 8, won 3, lost 5.
