SA's Paddy Upton lands top IPL gig

Cape Town - South Africa's Paddy Upton has been confirmed as head coach of the Rajasthan Royals for the 2019 IPL.

It will be Upton's second stint at the franchise having served as head coach from 2013 to 2015.

After that, he coached the Delhi Daredevils for two seasons in 2016 and 2017.

Upton will replace Australian great Shane Warne at the franchise, with the former leg-spinner understood to remain involved in some capacity.

Having worked with the Proteas as a strength and conditioning coach under Bob Woolmer and Hansie Cronje in 1999, Upton would go on to help Gary Kirsten's India side triumph in the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
