SA-born teen replicates 6 hitting feat

Cape Town - Teenaged wicketkeeper-batsman Glen Phillips has joined the elite club of cricketers to have hit six sixes in a single over while representing the historic Marylebone Cricket Club against the Duke of Norfolk XI at Arundel.

The South African-born New Zealander is currently with the MCC as part of their young cricketers' program, following in the footsteps of the late, great Martin Crowe and current Black Caps' star Ross Taylor.

Phillips has joined a group of illustrious names, including Herschelle Gibbs, Yuvraj Singh and Sir Garfield Sobers. Gibbs became the first man to achieve the feat in international cricket in 2007 when he destroyed dutch bowler Daan van Bunge during the World Cup. Yuvraj would go on to emulate the Proteas' batsman later that same year when he blasted Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over when India met England at the World T20. Singh and Gibbs remain the only two players to have achieved this record in international cricket.

Sobers and India's Ravi Shastri have smashed 36 runs off an over in first-class cricket and, while Phillips is not yet playing at first-class level consistently, he is the first person to hit six sixes in and over at the Arundel ground - which has hosted cricket matches since 1895.
