Cape Town - India batsman Suresh Raina has been ruled out of the second ODI against New Zealand at the Feroze Shah Kotla stadium in New Delhi with illness.
Raina missed the first ODI of the series with the same ailment which earlier cut short the left-handers participation in a first class Ranji Trophy match.
The aggressive batsman last played an ODI against South Africa at Mumbai in October 2015 and looked set to make his comeback before being struck down by a virus.
India blew the Black Caps away in the first game, easily eclipsing the tourists underwhelming total of 190 all out.
Raina has scored over 5000 runs in ODI cricket since making his debut in 2005 under Australian coach Greg Chappell.
The rationale behind Raina's inclusion in the squad had been his ability to contribute with the ball as well as his excellent fielding.
The second ODI will be played on October 20 in New Delhi.
