Proteas duo join Kings XI Punjab's coaching staff

Proteas legends Charl Langeveldt and Jonty Rhodes will be a part of the Kings XI Punjab's coaching staff for this year's Indian Premier League (IPL).

Former India captain Anil Kumble, who serves as Punjab's head coach, announced his support staff team this week for the 13th edition of the tournament.

Langeveldt will bring his experience with the South African and Bangladesh national teams as he takes on the bowling coach role.

The 45-year-old currently serves as the Proteas bowling consultant for their upcoming ODI tour of India, which gets under way on Thursday (10:00 SA time).

Langeveldt was a prolific bowler in his day, taking 100 wickets in 72 ODI appearances for South Africa.

Rhodes, who is regarded as one of the greatest fielders of all-time, was appointed as the team's fielding coach.

The 50-year-old played 52 Tests and 254 ODIs for the Proteas from 1992 to 2003.

The fitness of the team will be in the capable hands of South Africa's Adrian Le Roux.

"The team we've managed to build is absolutely phenomenal. Each member of our support staff brings in a great deal of experience and insight that will help us reach the goals that we have set for 2020 here at Kings XI Punjab. I'm certain the team will hugely benefit from their collective experiences," Kumble told the franchise's website.

Hardus Viljoen is the only South African player in Punjab's line-up after the former Proteas fast bowler was retained last year.

The Indian Premier League gets under way from 29 March-24 May with the Mumbai Indians the defending champions.
