Proteas batsman signs short-term county deal

Cape Town - Proteas batsman Theunis de Bruyn has signed a short-term deal with English county Surrey, joining them for two matches.

De Bruyn, who has played just five Test matches for South Africa, will take on Somerset and Yorskshire in the County Championship Division One.

After playing those matches, De Bruyn will join up with the Proteas squad for their two-Test tour of Sri Lanka next month.

“I am delighted to be joining Surrey, a club with rich history, for the next two Championship matches. It has always been one of my ambitions to play county cricket,” the 25-year-old told the official Surrey website

The match against Somerset starts on Wednesday.
