Cape Town - The Northerns Cricket Union are mourning the sudden passing of the President of the Northerns Cricket Union Umpires Association (NCUUA), Pieter Roux.
Roux, who suffered a heart attack on Friday, enjoyed a long and prolific career, spanning from September 2005, when he joined the NCUUA. Officiating in all formats, Roux was elected Vice-President of the Association, before becoming President in 2013.
NCU President, John Wright, commented: “It is with great shock that we learnt of the untimely passing of Pieter. He has done outstanding work with the NCU Umpires Association since heading up this section of the Union.
“During his tenure a number of our umpires were selected on to the top panels within CSA. Most notably was the achievement of Bongani Jele who went on to to make his ICC debut.”
Cricket Operations Manager, Johan Muller, added: “Pieter was more than the President of NCU Umpires Association, for many he was also a mentor and a friend. He lived his life serving others, and was always prepared to assist by sharing his expertise and knowledge.
"Pieter led the NCU Umpires Association with passion and commitment. His leadership will be sincerely missed.”
The Northerns Cricket Union have extended their condolences to Roux’s family and friends.
